                NROTC SCHOLARSHIPSCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS ●Provide uniforms and Naval Science textbooks ●Summer Cruise ●Stipend for textbooks ●Currently $750 per academic year ●Subsistence allowance each academic month ●Length of the scholarship is predicated upon the students degree plan. Students will receive scholarship benefits only for the time required to complete their baccalaureate degree or initial length of scholarship, whichever comes first. APPLICATION PROCESS ●You must apply via the NROTC unit of the university you wish to attend ●You must conduct an NROTC Applicant Fitness Assessment and provide your scores to the NROTC Unit from which they are seeking a nomination in order for their application to be considered complete and forwarded for consideration by the selection board. Contents of application: Application letter Signed and dated Personnel Data Record AFASS Current copy of college transcripts Letter of admission Degree plan Statement of Understanding Drug Statement Debarment Statement Letters of reference NROTC COLLEGE PROGRAMS ●Applicants selected from students already attending or accepted by colleges with NROTC programs. ●Provides uniforms and Naval Science textbooks ●College Program students selected for “advanced standing” receive a stipend for a maximum of 20 months. Stipend per academic month is $350 junior year and $400 senior year. ●When accepted, two-year applicants will attend six-and-a-half week Naval Science Institute program in Newport, RI during summer between Sophomore and Junior year. On graduation, two and four-year College Program midshipmen may be commissioned as Ensigns in the Naval Service or Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps.

Apply for Admission (usna.edu/admissions) Admissions Board- Whole Person Assessment Medically Qualify Physically Qualify Must be Qualified AND have a Nomination to be eligible to compete for an Appointment to USNA Common Nomination Categories Congressional – Open to all Each Member of Congress can have up to 5 cadets / Midshipmen at each academy at any given time. Presidential Parent on active duty, or retired from active duty with pay Parent on reserve duty with at least eight years service and 2880 points, or be eligible or drawing retired pay. ROTC/JROTC NROTC PNS can nominate 3 candidates per year NJROTC Senior Instructor can nominate 3 candidates per year! Designated JROTC Honor schools can nominate 3 additional candidates per year (plus 3 each to USMA & USAFA)!! DECEASED/DISABLED VET CURRENT POW/MIA 65 total per year Admission Board Evaluation Whole Person Assessment Admission Board evaluates a candidate’s Academic Performance Physical Abilities Leadership Potential GPA & Rank in secondary school class SAT / ACT scores Teacher recommendations Extracurricular Activities Athletic Non-Athletic Admissions Interview by Blue and Gold Officer Medical Qualifications Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board [DODMERB] Schedules medical examinations for all officer accessions DODMERB medical exam will be scheduled when candidate completes at least 5 documents of the application Each Academy/officer accession program has different standards for entry Reports status to candidate & programs Note: DOMERB does not make the final decisions, the Academy does. DODMERB does nothing but compare physical results to the Academy standards, and if you don’t meet them, they declare you non-qual. The Academy will automatically start the waiver process if the candidate is otherwise desirable and they might want to appoint them! If you have further medical information, submit it to DODMERB! Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) Basketball Throw, Cadence Pull-ups, 40 Yard Shuttle, Abdominal Crunches, Push-ups, 1-Mile Run. There are NO published minimums! However, have the cadet email their scores to their Admissions Counselor and ask if they think they should take it again for possible improvement. Can ONLY be Administered by: -BGOs -Commissioned Military Officer (Active Duty) -Physical Education Teacher (Coaches who are also PE teachers are ok) -JROTC Instructors -Senior Military Instructors (Military Prep schools) Advice toward Admissions Strong foundation in Mathematics and Science Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry (Pre-Calculus & Calculus are also very valuable and Highly encouraged) Chemistry and Physics (with a lab if possible) No minimum GPA – However, strive for the top 20% of your high school class. SAT/ACT – Take early and often. Both USNA and NROTC super-score AP/Honors/IB Courses are encouraged (if offered AND you can do well in them). Well rounded vs. Overextension Acceptance Overview Applicants ≈16,000 Triple Qualified ≈6,000 w/ Nomination ≈3,300 Offers of admission ≈1,400* Admitted ≈1,200 *NOTE: That means that close to 60% of Triple Qualified candidates with nominations fail to get an offer of admission! SO: If you don’t get in this year…try again!!                 NAVAL PREPARATORY PROGRAMNROTC Preparatory Scholarships allow interested high school students, who show great potential via grades, character, and extra-curricular activities but might lack standardized test scores or advanced high school courses, to apply for one-year university, or privately funded scholarships. University NROTC Prep programs are designed to provide students the educational foundation necessary for success in the NROTC program and Navy.

- Upon prep year completion, the Navy NROTC scholarship supports tuition, books and fees for up to 40 months of benefits
- Each participating University has its own unique NROTC preparatory program with its own unique benefits. Some of which include:
- Academic or study-skills mentoring and education counseling
- Association with NROTC units
- Dedicated physical-fitness training
- Focused preparatory or educational skills courses
- Additional scholarships up to full room and board funded for the entire five years
 
 Who Are We Looking For?- Individuals who have demonstrated leadership, integrity, and character but lack standardized test scores and advanced course completions due to a lack of opportunity.
- Demonstrations of future Navy leadership potential include but are not limited to the following:
- Leadership and participation in a variety of school, extracurricular, community or similar activities, particularly those with a charitable or public service purpose;
- Receipt of civic or similar awards;
- Demonstration of a desire to succeed and the ability to overcome barriers by excelling in school, sports, and/or overcoming personal adversity
- Documentation as a role model by teachers and peers at their high school.
- Not all the above factors need to be present.
- The intent is to provide additional opportunities to all who, for any of the above or similar reasons, demonstrate the potential for future success as a naval officer.
 
- The NROTC Preparatory Program leverages Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps programs to assist universities in identifying high-quality applicants, but not all university programs require NJROTC participation.
 Admissions- NROTC Preparatory Program Scholarships are awarded from participating universities. Applicants should contact their target university admissions and the university NROTC unit for specific information.

- To be eligible for a follow-on NROTC scholarship, applicants must meet all National Scholarship requirements except ACT/SAT minimums.
 Service Obligations- Navy Option Scholarship Midshipmen (does not include Nurses or Marines) are required to serve a minimum of five years of active military service. Additional requirements may be required for specific job assignments.
- Navy Nurse Corps Option Scholarship Midshipmen will be required to serve at least four years on active duty.
